Parkerized vs Nitride Barrels - YESTACTICAL
WebPhosphate is just basic parkerizing and will provide minimum corrosion resistance. It’s also porous and will make cleaning more difficult. Nitride is even harder and more corrosion resistant than chrome lining and produces sharper rifling which increase accuracy. Now, we must all fear evil men. WebPhosphate should be oiled and can wear/rust. Other options are nitride/melonite (inside and out). They cannot nitride a chrome bore but nitride is more corrosion resistent. Chrome bore is better for longevity. Nitride can have better accuracy and rust resistance (on outside) and unless doing mag dumps will last a long time also. WebBarrels are parkerized with the manganese phosphate finish (Mil-Spec A-A-59267). Military specifications also state that the entire barrel surface is phosphate finished to create a porous surface to absorb oil as to resist against corrosion from the elements.
